Můžeme to změnit
Rozhodl jsem se vytvořit stránku na facebooku, abych s Vámi mohl sdílet případy, kdy můžeme ovlivnit naši budoucnost a skoro nic nás to nestojí. Občas dostávám maily z organizace Avaaz a některé z nich stojí za sdílení a podpis. Ale podobné věci možná budete chtít sdílet i Vy. Tato stránka by k tomu měla sloužit.

Drazí přátelé,
je to urážlivé - více než polovina vrcholných politiků z orgánů EU se přesunuje přímo ze svých postů do lukrativních lobistických postů. Tím vytvářejí z EU "lobyokracii", kterou vládne ve prospěch velkých firem a nikoliv lidí.
Evropský parlament hrozí, že zadrží rozpočet EU, dokud se nevytvoří nový Kodex chování, který by měl zablokovat oficiální možnost stát se lobistou po odchodu z funkce. Během pár dní se sejdou zástupci parlamentu s představiteli Evropské komise, ale potřebují podporu, aby mohli prosadit rozhodující změnu.
Je to šance vyčistit Brusel, ale budeme potřebovat velkou podporu. (pozn. překl: pokud si myslíte, že to nemá šanci, přečtěte si můj komentář) Vliv velkých společností na rozhodování EU ničí demokratické priority. Klikněte a podepište petici, která bude předána hlavním vyjednávačům na setkání v parlamentu.

Průchodnost mezi funkcemi v Evropské komisi a možností stát se lobistou vytváří prostor pro korupci a přímo ji pohání, protože úředníci soutěží o nejtučnější částku. Svoje konexe a vliv pak dávají do služeb tomu, kdo nabídne nejvíc.
Nedávno odešel komisař pro průmysl a nyní pracuje pro 4 velké firmy a založil svou firmu pro lobování v EU. O měsíc dříve odešla jiná komisařka a nyní pracuje pro velkou pojišťovnu, která mohla profitovat z rozhodnutí, které jako komisařka dělala.
Možnost takových zaměstnání by měla být komisí vetována. Ale tajná "etická komise" za toto zodpovědná opakovaně selhává v tom, aby se postavila za veřejný zájem. Nikdy nezablokovala žádnou tuto nabídku od září kdy - na základě mediálního tlaku - zabránila bývalému komisaři pro finanční operace Charlie McCreevymu pracovat pro britskou banku.
Když se spojíme nyní, veřejný a parlamentní tlak může zastavit tento stav, zablokovat, aby další komisaři mohli dostávat lukrativní nabídky za protislužby a přinutit prezidenta Komise, aby vyplnil svůj dlouho slibovaný, ale nikdy neuskutečněný slib, že bude vytvořen nový fungující Kodex chování, aby nemohlo docházet ke znenužívání funkcí.

It's outrageous -- over half of top European Union politicians move straight from their posts into lucrative corporate lobbying jobs -- turning the EU into a "lobbyocracy" run by big business, not the people.
The European Parliament is up in arms and has just threatened to withhold EU budget money until a new code of conduct is introduced to block officials rushing to become lobbyists. In a few days parliamentarians will meet to hear the Commission's proposals, but they need support to force a decisive change.
This is a chance to clean up Brussels, but it will take a massive public outcry. The grip of big business on EU decisions subverts our democratic priorities, from agriculture to climate to energy. The "revolving door" between the European Commission and the lobbyists fuels corruption, as officials compete for the fattest pay cheque when they leave office and then put their relationships and influence to work for the highest bidder.
The recently resigned EU Industry Commissioner has already joined the boards of 4 large firms -- and set up his own EU lobbying company! And, months before she left office, another European Commissioner accepted a position with a giant insurance company which had a direct interest in decisions she was taking.
Such new jobs are supposed to be vetted by the Commission. But the secret ‘ethics committee’ responsible for that is failing to stand up for the public interest. It had never blocked a single appointment until September, when - following outrage in the media - it prevented former financial services commissioner Charlie McCreevy going to work with a British bank.
If we join together now, public and parliamentary pressure can break through Brussels complacency, block the industry commissioner’s appointments and force Commission president Barroso to fulfil his long-promised - but never implemented - promise for a tough new code of conduct to prevent abuse. P.S. Former European Commissioners continue to get paid 50% of their salary for three years, precisely to prevent them rushing to cash in with corporate jobs. Sticks are clearly needed alongside these carrots.
